While the AI community has been quietly accomplishing major feats over the Lunar New Year, one significant update was overlooked by many.
When NotebookLM first launched its one-click PPT generation feature, it was stunning, but it had a fatal flaw: it could only generate PDFs, making edits impossible! Any minor imperfection meant staring helplessly at the screen.
During the Spring Festival, Google finally patched this biggest weakness.
It now not only supports direct modifications but also allows exporting in the genuine PPTX format!
In this article, let's dive into this fresh update together.
Whether for newly generated slides or old PPTs saved previously, simply click the "..." on the right side and select "Revise" to instantly enter editing mode.
It must be said, this is absolutely the feature I (and I believe many peers) have been most envious of and eager for.
However, please note that the so-called "revision" here is not the same as dragging and dropping text boxes in traditional PowerPoint. It involves making targeted modifications by writing "prompts."
Get used to it; this is the standard operation in the era of AI!
Simply put, the PPTs generated by NotebookLM fundamentally rely on the Nano Banana Pro model for image rendering, so revisions naturally follow the same logic.
We can select specific slides needing modification one by one, write prompts to tell the AI exactly how to change them, and then submit these revisions all at once. (Global modifications are not currently supported).
Since the native model is driving the changes, it hits the mark precisely. For instance, in my test, changing the "scarf to red" in the image was accomplished with a single sentence, proving very accurate.
After the revision, the best part arrives: in addition to the default PDF, a PPTX file is now generated, which can be downloaded directly to your local device!
However, here is a pitfall to avoid: although it is in PPTX format, upon opening it, you will find that each slide is still a complete image, and the text inside cannot be directly拆解 (disassembled) for editing.
Therefore, the correct way to use this is: first use prompts within NotebookLM to perfect the visuals and text to your satisfaction, and then download it as a PPTX file for use.
I also tested a detail for everyone: old PPTs generated before the new feature launch can also be modified, but if no modifications are made, they can still only be downloaded as PDFs.
Just make a slight edit, and you can successfully unlock the PPTX format.
Besides this major update, I discovered a small Easter egg during testing: its aesthetic ability has visibly evolved (when using the same prompts).
Let's look at a comparison. This was generated 2 months ago; while it seemed impressive at the time, looking back now, the fonts were inconsistent, and the layout felt a bit empty.
Now look at the new version's effect; not only are all those previous flaws gone, but the overall texture and premium feel are maxed out!
Seeing this layout and image quality, an idea immediately popped into my head: this isn't just for slides; with this art style and level of exquisiteness, it could be published as a children's picture book and completely crush many assembly-line works on the market, right?
With the two fatal shortcomings of editing and exporting now fixed, saying that NotebookLM has reached "god tier" in the field of AI PPTs is truly no exaggeration.
Additionally, the NotebookLM app has recently undergone a major update, basically offering all the features found on the web version on the app side. (However, the revision and PPTX download features have not yet been updated to the app).
That's all for today's share!
